Oklahoma City police have arrested a man accused of making pipe bombs following an explosion at a local warehouse.

Police said they received multiple calls on Dec. 2 of loud explosions from an area near Southwest 29th Street and Portland Avenue. When officers arrived, they saw large amounts of smoke coming from a field.

During their investigation, police said they found a doghouse near an abandoned transit camp. Improvised explosive devices were found inside.

Shortly after, officers heard a large explosion and saw smoke billowing from a nearby warehouse.

Court documents say investigators saw a man standing in a doorway. When they tried to approach him, they said he closed the door and locked it.

“Officers attempted to make contact with this individual, but the individual immediately closed the overhead door and locked it,” court documents say. “Officers indicated that they had made several attempts to contact this individual without success.”

K-9 units eventually entered the building and found the suspect hiding under a large piece of sheet metal. Police said they found other improvised explosives in the warehouse.

Authorities say the man was an employee of the company.

On Sunday, the business owner called police back to the warehouse to retrieve some of the suspect’s personal effects. The owner directed police to the suspect’s workspace, where they say they found “a lab for making improvised explosive devices.”

The lab contained six completed IEDs and six in-progress IEDs. They also found other explosives materials including ball bearings, various powders and chemicals in boxes addressed to the suspect.

The landlord told police the suspect had recently said ‘the only way to deal with the homeless is through violence’.

Police also found a stolen Idaho gun in a backpack.

The suspect has a Minnesota warrant and multiple felony convictions, including terrorism threats.

KOCO 5 has not released the name of the suspect as no charges have yet been filed in the case.
